Understand profit, cash and outstanding rent

Read monthly performance alongside actual money movement and unpaid balances.

  1. Choose the reporting month

Profit & loss shows the selected month’s rental income, landlord costs and expenses using the CRM’s recorded figures. Read the report’s basis and compare it with the rent ledger.

  2. Check actual cash separately

Cash by payment method uses the payment date, so money received this month may cover an earlier rent period. Column totals show the combined receipts/outgoings. A profit figure is not the same as cash in your bank.

  3. Review unpaid balances

A rent charge records what is due; payments reduce that charge. Review tenant arrears, unpaid landlord rent and unpaid expenses before relying on monthly results.

  4. Close your month

Reconcile records to bank/cash, check adjustments and invoices, then download relevant reports for your accountant. The CRM assists record keeping; confirm tax treatment with your adviser.
